Complete refurbishment of Mittelweser weir systems (Petershagen, Schlüsselburg, Drakenburg, Dörverden, Langwedel)

In the area of Mittelweser, the complete refurbishment of five existing weirs (Petershagen (PHG), Schlüsselburg (SBG), Drakenburg (DBG), Dörverden (DRV), Langwedel (LGW)) was to be assessed in the course of the preliminary planning.
A total of 13 weir fields with opening widths of 24.9 m to 42.0 m and water levels of 5.25 m to 6.20 m were examined.

In the course of preliminary planning, status reports were prepared on the basis of on-site inspections which had previously taken place. The existing weirs consisted of roller gates with combined flaps.

Due to their age and structural condition, the need for refurbishment was considerable. In a variant study regarding the gate type, the complete refurbishment of the existing systems in PHG, SBG, DBG and LGW on the basis of the status report, the new construction of the roller gates as well as the new construction of tension gates, tainter gates and/or inflatable gates was investigated.

The weir of DRV had been refurbished in the 1990s. There were, however, vibrations which should be eliminated. For this reason, the existing structure was examined according to structural criteria, and recommendations for eliminating the vibrations were made.

The project was handled in cooperation with grbv Ingenieure im Bauwesen GmbH & Co. KG (solid construction), KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH (solid construction) and LPI Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH (material survey). With regard to the technical equipment, IRS cooperated with their subcontractor DriveCon GmbH.
