Schluchseewerke (Bad Säckingen)
In the course of a thorough check, the condition of the hydro-mechanical equipment at the Eggbergbecken and Aubecken pumped-storage facilities of Schluchseewerk AG was inspected.
Structural inspections were performed on the pipework, valves, pumps, trashracks, stoplogs, weir and cylindrical gates and access walkways, and the current status was assessed with regard to the need for action within a survey.
The existing structural safety analyses were reviewed with regard to the currently applicable codes and standards as well as to earthquake loads.
Buckling detected on the access walkways had to be inspected structurally in more detail for its cause and its effect on the load-bearing capacity, and a refurbishment concept had to be developed. The selected refurbishment variant allowed for refurbishing the walkways without closing the reservoir or shutting down the turbines, i.e. without any interruption in operations for the owner.
