Pumped storage scheme Venda Nova III/Frades II (Venda Nova, Portugal)

Venda Nova III power station is located on the Rabagao river in the north of Portugal and is the largest pumped storage scheme in Portugal with an installed capacity of 746 MW. The average annual generation is 1.441 billion kWh.

Construction started in April 2010. The power station was connected to the network in July 2015. Two reversible pump turbines with a capacity of 373 MW each were installed; they are located in an underground powerhouse. The maximum flow is 200 m³/sec.

- Intake rake, W = 5620 mm, H = 2 x 6600 mm
- Roller gate with lifting beam
