The company was established by the graduate engineer Hans Rapsch in 1996.

Upon the entry of graduate engineer Klaus-Dieter Schubert, the company was transformed into a limited liability company and has since then operated under the name of Ingenieurbüro Rapsch und Schubert Stahlwasserbau Consulting GmbH.

Our objective was to supplement and extend the previous scope of services. From this time on, not only did the company have design and execution knowledge, but also computational engineering expertise.

By recruiting highly qualified employees, who were also experienced in hydro-mechanical engineering, it has been possible to expand our design, computation and CAD departments continuously since 2000.

In early 2011, Matthias Schäfers took over Klaus-Dieter Schubert's position in the managing board.

With effect from 01/07/2012, IRS became a member of the Krebs und Kiefer group. By joining Krebs und Kiefer, we strengthened and extended our technical and regional competences. IRS's managing board, consisting of Mr. Hans Rapsch and Mr. Matthias Schäfers, has remained unchanged in the Würzburg-based office. We continue to be your competent contact focussing on hydro-mechanical and mechanical engineering. In addition, you may draw on Krebs und Kiefer's expertise in the field of hydro-mechanical engineering, solid construction and special civil construction from now on and without the need for interfacing.

For reasons of age, Mr. Rapsch left his position on the board with effect from 31/12/2015. As the company founder, he still has strong ties to it and contributes his expertise under a consultancy contract. With effect from 01/01/2017, Mr. Freitag was appointed as the second managing director of IRS Stahlwasserbau Consulting AG.

Overall, several hundred hydro-mechanical structures have been planned and implemented for Germany, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. The majority of the plants and gate types used in these hydro-mechanical structures were planned and executed by us. In this context, several pioneering developments in hydro-mechanical engineering have been significantly influenced and shaped.

In addition to the hydraulic drive systems most frequently used for moving gates, electrical lifting cylinders, rack-and-pinion drives, as well as cable and chain drives are also designed. Our competencies also extend to connecting hydro-mechanical components to solid structures and electrical equipment.

The hydro-mechanical equipment is designed for marine tidal areas (influences from saline sea water, brackish water, sand, silt, waves, etc.), for high mountain influences (bed load, ice, snow, low temperatures, etc.), for desert influences (windborne sand, high temperatures, etc.), as well as with regard to earthquake loads. Whenever concrete and steel have to withstand water, we are your competent partner when it comes to design planning in hydro-mechanical engineering and hydro-mechanical structures, from small to large plants, from new constructions to refurbishment.
